Tortoise Shell Glazed Stoneware Vase

Meiping, Jizhou Ware

Southern Song Dynasty 12th -13th Century

Height: 19 cm.

The well potted high shouldered Vase is surmounted by a neck and rolled mouth rim, on a countersunk base.

The entire Vase, including the base, is covered with a mottled or splashed yellow and brown glaze. The yellow typically thins in many places becoming more pale, occasionally exposing the buff body, burnt red on the foot.
